The beautiful west coast village of Anse La Raye, once again played host to the much-anticipated Anse La Raye Fish Fry. Held on the last Friday of the month, this beloved event brought together locals and visitors alike for an evening of good food, soulful music, and vibrant community spirit. Anse La Raye Fish Fry’s second installment last Friday, April 26, 2024, delighted patrons with an unforgettable experience that captured the essence of Anse la Raye.
From the moment the sun began its descent, the evening kicked off with the smooth melodies of homegrown saxophonist Antonius Henry, whose music set a relaxed and welcoming tone for the night ahead. Patrons relaxed comfortably at the seaside, soaking in the atmosphere and enjoying the soothing sounds that filled the air.
Continuing the musical journey, Amy Stephen took to the stage accompanied by her father on guitar, treating the audience to a heartfelt performance of traditional folk songs that she sang while growing up in the community.. Her voice resonated through the night, evoking a sense of nostalgia and calm along the bay front.
But it wasn’t just the music that captivated the crowd – it was the tantalizing aroma of freshly prepared seafood wafting from the numerous vendors that lined the streets. From grilled fish, to lambi, each dish was a testament to the culinary skills of Anse La Raye’s chefs, drawing hungry patrons eager to sample the local fare. And not to mention, the soft, fluffy, hot bakes and ice cold Piton and Heineken quench those thirsty palettes.
And no Caribbean event would be complete without the infectious rhythms of steel pan music. Errol Fontenelle took center stage, his nimble fingers dancing across the gleaming surface of his instrument, infusing the night with an irresistible energy that had attendees on their feet and dancing into the night. The DJs were on hand to bring the feel of pure Caribbean vibes, which got patrons moving to the beats of several musical genres such as soca, and reggae.
Looking back on the evening, it’s clear that Anse La Raye Fish Fry is more than just a culinary event – it’s a celebration of community, culture, and the vibrant spirit of the Caribbean people. With plans to make the event a monthly occurrence, there’s no doubt that the magic of Anse La Raye will continue to captivate and inspire all who attend.
