The idea of losing your job in the heart of a pandemic can be very daunting and depressing. Also too, being teenagers without work can be quite frustrating.
However, meet Jay and Genesis Christmas (yes, their surname is Christmas) who decided to turn their misfortune into opportunity by starting off a carwash business right here in the village of Anse La Raye. The two young men who are in fact twins used their innovative and entrepreneurial skills to start up a carwash business called Jimo’s Carwash.
“Our inspiration came as a result of being bored at home. We also needed money to take care of our needs” the boys expressed. “Although we had many other business ideas, we decided to go ahead with a carwash because of the simple start up requirements.”
The boys got in touch with their dad, explained their idea and convinced him to assist them in procuring the necessary equipment such as a generator, foam blaster and car care products.
Jimo’s Carwash provides both interior and exterior cleaning services for your vehicle. Some of their offerings include vacuuming, powerwashing and polishing. The cost of a thorough interior and exterior clean is a mere twenty dollars for regular cars and twenty-five dollars for a minibus. The average time for a full clean is about forty five minutes and twenty minutes for an exterior wash.
“Business has been good over our two weeks of operation, although COVID has also slowed down business since many people are not traveling.” The boys indicated that they will nonetheless persevere in this business since they see great potential as the country slowly reopens.
For them, they are already thinking of the next steps ahead, stating that they are likely to also offer other services such as vehicle detailing as they learn more about cars and the demands of motorists.
When asked about the advice they would give to young persons particularly sitting on the fence about a business idea, they, without hesitation stated, “Just go ahead and start your business, be smart about your choices and be patient.”
If you would like to schedule an appointment with Jimo’s Carwash, the young men can be reached at 732 7066 or you can find them next to the Anse la Raye bridge as you enter the village from the north. So look out for their huge carwash sign and be sure to have your vehicle washed to help support and encourage these young men.
